free read Into Africa ð PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB Thomas Sterling ¶ 6 characters free read Into Africa When the explorer René Caillié returned to France from Africa in 1828 he published a sketch of the legendary city he had discovered Timbuctoo But neither that simple drawing nor his matter of fact. An informative short history of exploration of Africa It is written in a dry textbook style and although it describes the dangers hardships and illnesses the explorers faced I never felt the sense of adventure As it is a brief introduction to the explorers journeys it may inspire readers to pursue other books on explorations by these brave men The absence of maps made following their journeys very difficult At times they describes expeditions as heading east while I believed probably incorrectly that they were traveling west At the end of the book are random photos of places in Africa There is an easily noticeable mistake in my Kindle edition Included is an illustration labeled Timbuktu and a few pages after is the exact same drawing labeled Stanley Meeting Livingston

free read Into Africa ð PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB Thomas Sterling ¶ 6 characters free read Into Africa Description gave Caillié's countrymen a sufficiently colorful picture to match their preconceptions of how Africa should look They turned their backs on the young explorer ignored his accomplishme. I almost uit reading this book about half way through It is about the various explorers who mapped the African continent but the first half had all the excitement of a high school history textbook I kept reading and found the second half about the Dutch colonists and Livingston and Stanley somewhat entertaining However it is strange to publish a book about exploration without a single map I kept going to Google Maps to find out where the explorers were If you don t already have detailed knowledge of Africa s river systems it is not at all clear what these people were exploring The back of the book had a gallery of pictures most taken in modern Africa One illustration appeared twice with two different captions one for 1860 and one for 1871 If you want to know about African exploration find a different book
