Excellent Jazz theory book that is closer to tonal music theory than the Jazz Theory Book by Mark Levine However Levine s book is less dry accessible and conversationalIf you don t have a background in tonal ie Classical music theory then Bert s introduction of classical inversion numbers ie 6th will confuse because there s no explanation Also sometimes there s too much mention of actual notes ie Eb going to Db etc for my taste Considering it s a theory book I would prefer intervals so that I can imagine the concept in whatever key I wantStill this book is a great compliment to any other theory book out there
